EIE, the University of Edinburgh’s premier tech investor showcase has Hannah Jones, CEO of The Earthshot Prize as the latest keynote in its speaker programme. 

Taking place on the 6th October 2022, EIE is one of Scotland’s best known tech conferences, having run since 2008. EIE features a cohort of companies pitching for investment from an international gathering of investors.

Hannah Jones joined The Earthshot Prize in 2021 after 16 years as Nike’s first Chief Sustainability Officer. She has worked across multiple sectors, starting her career at the BBC and going on to work within the charity sector and with the founding team of Microsoft’s then philanthropy program in EMEA.

She has held board and advisory seats on Mercy Corps, the UNHCR Business Advisory Council and the Purpose Climate Lab and is co-founder and co-chair of the We Mean Business coalition, working to influence climate policy.

An initiative launched by The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, The Earthshot Prize is the most prestigious environmental prize in history. EIE is proud to have partnered with Earthshot and become an Official Nominator. The Earthshot Prize is designed to incentivise change and help to repair our planet over the next ten years and many of EIE’s past and current cohort are perfectly positioned to help it achieve its goal.

This EIE year boasts ten companies in its Energy, Climate & Cleantech sector, including Danu Robotics, who are developing advanced robotic sorting systems for waste recycling, Beringar who seek to make real estate the greenest, most efficient asset class on the planet and Ocean Biofuels, who will grow and harvest sugar kelp to produce biofuels.

EIE has a long history of success, with more than £1.5Bn raised by more than 540 companies that have taken part in EIE. It is a key part if the Scottish Entrepreneurial ecosystem well known alumni of EIE include one of Scotland’s three unicorn companies, those valued at over $1Bn, in FanDuel, who appeared as a start up at EIE in 2010. Another notable alumni with recent success was Current Health, who were acquired by US retail giant Best Buy for $400 million.

This year speakers already announced include Scotland’s new and first Chief Entrepreneur Professor Mark Logan FRSE, Ana Stewart Chair of The Scottish Government “Women in Enterprise” Review and Sheila Flavell CBE President techUK.
